How to Partition a FireWire Hard Disk in OS 10.5
- 1). Plug the Firewire external hard drive into your Mac's Firewire port. Back up any important information on the Firewire drive as partitioning it will erase all the data on it.
- 2). Open Disk Utility on your Mac. It is in the Applications/Utilities folder or the Finder's "Go" menu available from the desktop.
- 3). Select the Firewire drive from the list of drives in the left hand side of the window. Click the "Partition" tab.
- 4). Click on the "Volume Scheme" menu and select how many volumes you want to partition the drive into from the drop down menu.
- 5). Name each partition and select the type of format. Select Mac OS Extended (Journaled) for a bootable Mac drive. Choose Mac OS Extended (No Journaling) for data storage. Drag the button between each partition to change the size. Click "Apply."
