Unconventional Bank Robberies Becoming Trend in Colorado

In the movies, bank robberies are always daring adventures where the characters jump through hoops to steal from the business, then escape in thrilling fashion as they try to lose the authorities. In reality however, it is far less exciting. Recently a string of dumb, shortsighted and anti-climatic robberies have occurred in the Colorado area. A man was arrested recently after allegedly robbing a bank in Colorado Springs on foot. That's correct, instead of a get-away car he had sneak-away sneakers. Officers were called to the Academy Bank inside a local Colorado area Walmart, according to the Colorado Springs Police Department's blotter. A teller at the bank alerted a woman inside the store that she was being robbed. The man said he had a weapon, but one was never seen. Witnesses said the man looked like he was homeless, and reports suggest that he may have been staying in the area. After more than two hours (which still seems like a while, considering he was on foot), officers located and arrested the alleged perpetrator, a Colorado Springs resident, on suspicion of aggravated robbery.

If only the stupidity had ended there when it came to inane ideas on how to rob a bank. As it turns out the Walmart-robbing super-criminal had company, as a still unspecified man robbed a Denver bank recently. Authorities are still looking for a man who robbed a bank in Denver, then fled on a bicycle. That is correct, a bicycle. Not a motorcyle, moped, or even a motorized scooter or Segway, just a good old fashion bike. According to reports, the man entered Steele Street Bank & Trust, a local Denver area bank, in the early morning, and demanded money. One of the tellers notified the police with the bank's Colorado home security system which caused the man to flee the location before the officers arrived. Police, responding to the security system searched the area and a police dog was brought in to assist. The man is described as a white male, 25 to 35 years old, approximately 5-foot 6-inches to 5-foot 7-inches tall with a heavy build and a brown goatee.

Unfortunately this mastermind is still on the loose, almost adding credence to the concept of using a bike as a get-away vehicle. One thing about criminals like this is they never stay hidden long. If these men are dense enough to concoct a plan to steal from a bank with the aid of a bike, or to flee from the scene in a pair of tennis shoes, they are probably not the brightest bankrobbers.
