Writer"s Guidelines
It is typical of writers that even after they finish writing, publishing, printing the books they do not rest in peace.
Readers might have purchased and finished reading the books, but the writer would still be entertaining thoughts as to how he could have written better and what else he could have added.
It is common with most of the writers that they just do not know where and when to stop the revisions.
To guide you through such pitfalls, we have compiled the following guidelines.
1.
If a writer is too obsessed with his work and is not able to view it from a detached objective perspective, he will find himself always immersed in the plot, dialogue, characters and so on.
Then it is difficult for him to stop at a particular point and end the novel.
By being objective do not be rigid and closed minded that you do not take advise or refuse to edit certain passages or dialogues where required to make it look better.
You should be amenable to suggestions to improve your work though.
2.
Most of the writers often make this mistake of reading their work alone and reviewing the same.
When they do this, they end up making mistakes or not able to spot errors.
Such review should always be done along with others.
One can read out to ones spouse, friend or colleague who will be able to spot the mistakes.
Where you feel necessary, make corrections to the passage or dialogues.
Try new dialogues or rework on the sentence structure to achieve the desired quality.
It always helps to make it interesting for readers and hold their attention.
3.
Most often writers fall prey to familiarity trap where in they are not able to recognize the mistakes in the passages that they have written owing to too much of familiarity with the dialogues or the passage.
Quite often the mind does not wish to recognize the mistake and correct it, rather pushes the writers to over look and go on with the rest of the work.
Remember revisions entail trial and error methods and processes.
Hence have patience and work with total revision till you have achieved the desired perfection.
If you have completed the entire work revision, then you can end the exercise, close the book and let go completely from your mind.
