  Decorate in robins-egg blue and soft yellow for this nesting theme. Mark each place setting with a bird's nest cookie--a frosted sugar cookie with chow mein noodles and tiny egg candies on top, and make centerpieces of small grapevine wreaths with raffia in the middle to form a "nest" with candy eggs or alabaster eggs nestled in the straw. As Mom settles in to perfect her baby's nursery, shower her with gifts to feather her nest such as soft blankets, a rocking chair, or a beautiful piece of art or framed photo for the baby's room.

  Celebrate the eco-friendly mom with a green shower. Set the tables with cotton tablecloths, real dishes and cloth napkins to minimize waste, and use green houseplants as centerpieces. Find recycled paper decorations on the pea in a pod theme and choose locally made soy candles for favors. Gifts such as cloth diapers, BPA-free teething rings and organic cotton baby gowns will be welcome. Guests snack on edamame (salted soybeans), a healthy tabbouleh salad and delicious locally-grown fruit. Instead of paper and pencil games, share stories about the mother-to-be.

Invite each guest to bring a favorite children's book as the gift and read the books aloud. Play games in which guests complete the nursery rhymes or well-known fairy tales. Make sure guests sign the books they brought with a special message for the expectant mother and baby.
