How Do I Take Apart an Acer Laptop to Clean the Keyboard?
- 1). Click the Windows "Start" menu and select the "Shut Down" option. Wait for Windows to finish shutting down and unplug any devices connected to your Acer, such as the power cable and any USB drives.
- 2). Push the Acer's LCD screen down so it closes into place above the keyboard. Flip over the entire unit and locate the battery port at the top end of the case. Push in the two latches positioned below the battery and lift the battery out of its port.
- 3). Check in the empty battery port to see if your specific Acer model has a line of three Phillips screws, which hold the indicator panel above the keyboard in position. Remove the three screws with a Phillips screwdriver if they are present.
- 4). Flip over the laptop again and pull open the LCD screen so the keyboard is facing up toward you. Slide the edge of a flat-head screwdriver underneath the bottom edge of a key if you want to clean only underneath specific keys. Pop the key gently upward to gain access to the area underneath the key for cleaning.
- 5). Locate the plastic indicator panel above the keyboard. Push the edge of a flat-head screwdriver, or another flat object such as a guitar pick, underneath the seam at the far right side of the panel. Push the panel upward and pull it off the laptop.
- 6). Grab the top edge of the keyboard and pull it upward. Grip the cable connecting the bottom of the keyboard to the laptop and unplug it. Pull the keyboard off the laptop.
