Turn off the power to the solar control panel. The electrically operated valve that allows water to flow to the solar should be closed. If you have another manually operated valve that controls water flow to the solar panels, close it too. You do not want to get the DE in the small tubes that run through the solar panels. (The photos show #1 as the skimmer/sump control valve which can be in any position during this process, #2 as the electrically operated valve, and #3 as the manual operated valve to solar panels.)

Attach a pool pump hose to the drain on the Slide Valve Assembly. Use the hose to direct the chlorinated flush water and old DE away from your house and lawn. (Photos show #4 as the Slide Valve Assembly drain.)

Photo not related to this step. Refer to component numbers in Step 1.

Twist the Slide Valve Assembly handle and pull it upwards to the open position.

    • 4). Turn on the pool pump and run it for 2 minutes or until the flush water is clean.

    • 5). Turn off the pool pump. Push the Slide Valve Assembly handle down and lock it in the closed position.

    • 6). Open the Rinse Valve. Turn on the pool pump and run it for 20 seconds. You may want to use the pool hose to direct the chlorinated water away from your lawn. (Photos show #5 as the rinse valve.)

    • 7). The filter has now been back flushed and rinsed. Do not operate the pool pump for more than a few minutes without pre-coating the filter with clean DE.
