How to Troubleshoot a Genie Keyless Entry
- 1). Change the battery on the keyless entry if the red LED (light-emitting diode) does not blink during operation. Press the lip underneath the keys and slide the battery compartment off. Replace the battery with a 9-volt battery--the same kind you use in a smoke detector.
- 2). Remove any obstructions that block the line of sight between the keyless entry and the garage door motor or any wall-mounted receiver. Although the keyless entry is more tolerant than an infrared remote, like the one you use for your television, it can still benefit from a clear view. Particularly problematic obstructions include concrete walls with rebar and reflective metal--like siding. Relocate the keypad.
- 3). Erase the existing PIN (Personal Identification Number) if the PIN doesn't work or you've forgotten it. Press and hold the button with the arrows on it. Then press the number 6 button followed by the button marked "Prog."
- 4). Program a replacement PIN. Press the numbers 1, then 2, then 3 and then the "Prog" button. Press the buttons in the correct sequence and the red LED will blink once per second. Enter a new PIN. It needs to be a three-to-four-digit code. Press "Prog." The LED will flash twice per second, and then turn off.
