Reading marriage proposal stories is a romantic activity that can help you to imagine the day you’ll get engaged, or to remember the romance of the day your sweetheart popped the question. After all, there are few phrases in the English language that are more sweated over or rehearsed than "Will you marry me?"

If you're sweating over your own marriage proposal, try reading these stories for inspiration and company. Or, if you're a romantic like I am, read them just because -- regardless of how soon or recent your own engagement might be.

The Engagement Story of Weddings.D106 reader Manon

When did this take place? December 2007

We were on holiday in Paris, France. I was hoping, but not really expecting him to propose. We decided to have a picnic on the Ponte Neuf, on the bank of the Seine. After finishing our lunch of fresh bread, divine cheese and cold meat, we sat back with our (illicit) glasses of wine and watched the ferries speed past.

He leaned in and whispered "you're a cool chick" (it's a standing joke, a nonchalant complement) followed by "Will you marry me?". Of course I said yes! He had a gorgeous solitaire diamond ring in Platinum that he chose himself. It was one or 2 sizes too small, but how could I not forgive him that tiny little mistake?

We're getting married in April in a small South African town called "Parys". No coincidence. Stared out as a joke, but then it started sounding like a cool idea. We live in South Africa.
