Business Bloggers: Tiny Tweaks to Make Your Blog Shine

103 10
You've got your URL, your blog's set up, and you've got stuff to write about.
What else does a business blogger need? Look over the business blog checklist below.
These tips and tweaks will make it easier for you to keep readers and gain new ones.
The first time I implemented all these steps it took me about an hour - the 2nd and 3rd time, it took me less than 10 minutes.
1.
Make every post shareable
You've written a fantastic post.
Your reader gets to the end and wants to share it with a friend, but he can't, and you've just lost out of potential new leads.
Every single post should at least have the option to Tweet, share on Facebook, or e-mail to a friend.
In the free blogging platform Blogger, this is an easy widget to add.
In WordPress, I've been using a plugin called "Share and Follow" by Andy Killen.
This gives me share buttons at the end of each post, as well as general buttons like "follow my RSS feed" and "follow me on Twitter" that stay constant in the sidebar.
2.
Change <0 comments> to "Leave a comment"
If a reader looks through your blog and keeps seeing "0 comments" on each post, it's easy for you to lose credibility.
Don't get me wrong - blogs can be successful without comments - but having "0 comments" everywhere decreases the perception of your success.
The quick fix here: change "0 comments" to something like "Leave a comment," "Comment here" or "What do you think?" That way, readers won't as easily focus on how many comments you have (or don't have) but might be more encouraged to comment.
3.
Make it easy to subscribe to your blog content
If people like your blog, you need to make it easy for them to keep getting updates.
People subscribe to blogs in one of two ways: e-mail, or RSS.
If you're unfamiliar with RSS, it means "really simple syndication," and when people sign up they get any new posts from you directly into an online reader, or into a section of their Yahoo or Google home page.
Interestingly, a report by HubSpot found that business blogs averaged 12 times more subscribers by e-mail than RSS.
Interesting! So obviously, it's essential that you offer people options to subscribe by both RSS and e-mail.
Make these changes to get your business blog started on the right foot.
Once you've got the basics down, you can focus on the part that matters to readers: content that matters, answers their questions, and speaks to your target.
