How to Decorate a California Bungalow
- 1). Maximize your space with an open concept layout. If you plan to make extensive renovations to your bungalow, consider starting by knocking out some walls. Though your bungalow may be small, you can make it look larger by adopting an open concept. Instead of separating your kitchen from the family room, for example, knock out the wall and make it all one open -- and perfect-for-entertaining -- space.
- 2). Take advantage of the view. If the bungalow you are decorating has a breathtaking view, exploit it. Position the furniture in the room so that individuals sitting in the chairs or on the sofas will look straight at the most attractive of the views that individuals within the bungalow can take in.
- 3). Use natural light. Instead of covering up your windows and relying almost solely on electric light, use the sunlight in your space, keeping window coverings to a minimum to allow this warm illumination to enter your space.
- 4). Add beachy accents. When selecting decorative accents for your space, follow a beach theme. Add a glass jar filled with seashells, perhaps that you collected yourself, a few pieces of coral and some images of ocean waves lapping on the shore.
- 5). Select light fabrics. Keep your bungalow light and airy by using lots of linens and sheer fabrics. Avoid scratchy fabrics such as wools, as those who visit your bungalow will likely be dressed for the California weather, and sitting on these scratchy fabrics in shorts could prove less than pleasing.
- 6). Integrate color. In general, a bungalow is no place for muted tones. Play off the naturally bold California landscape by integrating color heavily into your bungalow design. Select a few dominant colors, such as eye-popping pink or bold blue, and feature the hues heavily in your design, making your bungalow a bold space.
