      There is no one perfect weight loss plan for everyone. Counting points, eating packaged meals, going to meetings, going online, all are legitimate parts of one successful weight loss plan or another. The best weight loss plan for you depends on your lifestyle and personality, not on what worked for your friends or coworkers.

    Diet Watch

    • One of the first online-only weight loss programs, Diet Watch offers a variety of options. There are four diet plans, including a Mediterranean diet, and plans for you to lose or maintain weight. There is a course on emotional eating, menus and tools to help track your progress, shopping lists, message boards and a community. As of August 2009, the program cost $2.99 per week, or half that if you subscribed for the entire year.

    Weight Watchers

    • Weight Watchers is one of the oldest weight loss programs around, and is well known worldwide. Based on a sensible, balanced diet, this plan determines how many points are in each food, then lets members keep track of daily points consumed. Weekly meetings are at the core of this program, but there is an online option to follow if you don't want to attend the meetings. The price varies depending on location, but most meetings cost about $10 per week in August 2009.

    Sparkpeople

    • If you need a lot of online motivation and tools, Sparkpeople may be the perfect plan. This website is free and filled with any tool you can think of to help achieve your weight loss goals. There are menus, shopping lists, diet plans, food trackers, exercise suggestions and video clips, message boards, email lists, reward systems and more.

    The South Beach Diet

    • The South Beach Diet was designed by cardiologist Arthur Agatston for his cardiac patients, It has been one of the most popular diets around since the book was first published in 2003. The diet is based on three phases, beginning with an almost no carb phase and gradually introducing carbohydrates back onto the menu. The plan is a very healthy diet, although quite restricted at first.
