How to Make a String Mutable
- 1). Save a cork from a wine bottle. Wash the cork with distilled water to remove the wine residue, then let the cork dry for one day.
- 2). Slice a vertical indention into the middle of the cork using a utility knife. The indentation should be one-half inch deep and 1/16th of an inch wide.
- 3). Squeeze the indention over the instrument's string. If the sides of the cork touch the other strings, note where the strings touch and then remove the cork.
- 4). Cut the sides of the cork until it fits over a string without touching other strings. If the cork is not sized correctly and it contacts the other strings, it will mute them as well.
- 5). Reapply the cork over the instrument's string to make it mutable.
