How to Organize Culinary Arts for Church

    • 1). Gather together a team of volunteers. Many church members love to cook and love to share their culinary gifts with others, so you will not likely have trouble putting together your team. You will also need people available to deliver meals to homes and to help set up for meals at church functions. In addition, you need to find people or businesses who are willing to donate food or finances to those who will do the actual cooking.

    • 2). Make a calendar of all the church events throughout the year that involve serving food. Usually the pastor or church secretary will have a schedule at least a year in advance. You can then plan out a menu for that time period and make copies for all those involved in the Culinary Arts ministry. Each cook can sign up for the items she would like to make and suggest changes or additions to the menu.

    • 3). Create a schedule of rotation for those who will be making meals to bring to families. Each cook can be asked to provide two dinners at a time. A good suggestion is that the cook prepare a hot meal and a frozen casserole to the family, along with some type of dessert. Give copies of the schedule to each of your cooks. When someone takes a turn preparing meals, notify the entire group so that everyone knows whose turn is next. Due to the nature of this ministry, a cook may be called on at any time to prepare meals when a church member needs surgery or has a sudden death in the family.

    • 4). Put together a communication line for your team. Many social networks allow you to create private groups for communicating. This will allow you to discuss menu changes, remind others of the schedule, keep phone numbers and other contact information and simply get to know the other members of the ministry all in one place.
