Submit Police to Drug and Alcohol Testing?
As officers of the court they have the discretion of choice in what to do or not do in any given situation, in other words the public is at the mercy of the police.
Takes a huge amount of restraint to control power of that capacity, especially with the fact that most policemen and women are armed with what some call deadly weapons.
Given that information hopefully the police are unaltered, especially on the job.
Personally it is hoped that drug testing is not needed for anyone, though it is a bit unrealistic when considering the fact that most people at some time in their lives drink or experiment with drugs.
There is no distinction between drugs and alcohol, many seem to forget that alcohol is a drug, and drugs can be addictive, especially when used from an early age.
Of course there are exceptions in defining addiction.
If anyone uses drugs to excess or debilitation, it is usually known by observation, yet if a tolerance has been built up it is not difficult to be what can be called a functioning drunk, or addict, whichever fits.
Functioning alcoholics or drug addicts as public servants is a contradiction in terms, especially when it is the police.
Domestic violence is an example of the result(s) of abuse in the realm of drugs, no matter what the drug.
It is interesting that statistically over fifty per cent of calls to the police are the result of domestic violence due to drug use, and many of those calls are from women and at times men who are married to or otherwise attached to some of our public servants.
Of course it is a minority of public servants who fall into whatever category fits.
If these types of situations can be prevented with the use of testing, then it serves the greater good, although it can be and is fooled by those who expect to be tested, so who is fooling who, more importantly who is fooling themselves? Delusion is rampant in our so called highly tolerant society of supposedly more intelligent people than in past years.
It is dangerous to believe and accept everything at face value, especially in the realm of human behavior, even more so in respect to public servants.
In other words hopefully all public servants are just that, servants to the public, yet many are only servants to themselves and whatever drug of choice they use.
