Air Conditioner Repair: Keeping Cool While You Wait

It's one of the most frustrating things a modern homeowner can encounter: a broken A/C.
Those who live in hotter climates know that living without that cool indoor atmosphere can be unbearable at certain times of the year.
But most air conditioner repair places aren't going to drop everything and rush to your aid.
Even if they do, you might have to wait for parts to come in.
What do you do in the meantime? Well, you can always rent a hotel room, but that is prohibitively expensive for many families.
Here are some ways to stay cool while you wait for your A/C to get fixed.
Keep the Sun Out Not everyone likes their house to feel like a cave, but it might be worth it to shut the blinds and close the curtains while waiting for your air conditioning repair work to be finished.
That hot afternoon sun comes blazing in the windows and can make a difference of several degrees compared to when you block it out.
Turn on some lights or learn to love the darkness, at least until you have your HVAC system fixed.
Use Your Fans Ceiling fans can help a lot when it comes to getting the temperature down.
Portable fans have their place as well, of course, but they can't match the room cooling power of a good ceiling fan.
Crank them up to their max setting and you may find that you don't miss your A/C as much as you thought.
Stay Out of the Kitchen Unless you're just in there to soak up the cool air coming out of the freezer, the kitchen is a bad place for someone waiting for air conditioning repair.
The stove and the oven are two of the biggest heat-generating appliances in your house.
How many times have you walked over to the thermostat in the middle of preparing dinner because sweat was beginning to form on your brow? That's the oven at work, most likely.
Except this time, you won't be able to get any satisfaction from the thermostat.
Take a Shower You may not have much use for a cold shower in the normal course of your life, but this is the perfect time to enjoy one.
Better yet, don't dry off completely after getting out.
Just throw on some light clothing (or not) and sit underneath the ceiling fan.
The cool water evaporating slowly on your skin will make it seem as though your air conditioning repair has finally arrived.
