Therapist for Sex Offenders Facing Possible Charges for Sex With Inmate
Sarah Brooks is a former therapist for criminals who committed sexual offenses at the Airway Heights Corrections Center. After being caught in a compromising position with an inmate who was one of her patients, her employment has been resigned and the correctional center is urging for sexual misconduct charges against her.
Brooks worked as a therapist for criminals who were convicted as sexual offenders. Nothing seemed out of the ordinary until on April 4 when she was found with her shirt lifted, exposing her bra and her pants' zipper undone with an inmate in the sexual treatment area of the prison.
The matter was investigated by the prison and they found out that Brooks had been having a three month long affair with the inmate and was even planning on continuing the affair after he was released. She confessed to showing him her breasts, allowing him to touch her and that she had once performed oral sex for him.
Investigators also found love letters that were written to the inmate from Brooks. She used a fake name and a phony address, but there is no doubt that they are from her.
The inmate was also interviewed and his testimony collaborated with Brooks's. In this situation, the inmate is being viewed as the victim. Brooks took advantage of her position and instead of helping him, she abused his trust. He has been transferred to another facility to await the end of his sentence, which is expected to be later this year.
The Airway Heights Police Department has issued a recommendation to authorities that Brooks be charged with three counts of custodial sexual misconduct for her actions while working as a therapist. It is unknown whether she will be charged, but her career will definitely suffer because of this affair. Not only has she resigned from the position at Airway, it is likely that she will not be able to find another therapist job again due to her transgressions.
People who are in the positions to take advantage of people often times do, unfortunately. Whether it is a therapist or a care provider, people can at any time be mistreated by those who are supposed to protect and support them. If you or someone you know has been abused or neglected by caretaker or in a nursing home, contact an injury lawyer today to find out what to do next and how to fix the problems.
