How to Remove a Bat From a Room

    • 1). Remove all pets from the room and ask any other people to leave, especially if they are prone to panic. Staying calm is key in getting the bat out of the room, and you can easily remove a bat by yourself--though it can be helpful to have an assistant to open doors after you catch the bat.

    • 2). Confine the bat to the room by closing the doors to the room as well as any closet doors. If the bat is flying throughout the building, he will be much more difficult to catch.

    • 3). Turn on the light, if it is nighttime and the bat is flying around the room. The light will make the bat think it is daytime, so he will seek out a place to roost. One of the most common places for bats to roost in a room is on the curtains.

    • 4). Put on heavy rubber or leather gloves to protect your hands in case the bat bites and get a small towel to place over the bat.

    • 5). Approach the bat slowly. Place the towel over him so he's entirely covered. Slowly pull him away from his perch so you don't injure him. Hold him firmly but gently.

    • 6). Carry the bat outside if it is nighttime. Place the towel on the ground and open it up so the bat can fly away. Stay with him until he flies to make sure he isn't injured. If it is not nighttime, place the bat in a confined space, such as a cat crate. Take the crate outside at night so he can fly away.
