Welcome to the Coney Island Boardwalk in Brooklyn, New York

Come for a stroll in the salty air, nibble on some deliciously fried food, and revel in the views of the Atlantic Ocean on one side and Coney Island amusement park rides on the other.

In short: visit one of the most famous boardwalks in American history. It's Brooklyn's Coney Island Boardwalk, along the sandy Atlantic Ocean beachfront.

As for local lore, Coney Island’s massive (and still mostly wooden) boardwalk is as much a symbol as the Brooklyn Bridge.

Officially its called Riegelmann Boardwalk.

But unofficially, everybody just calls it the Coney Island boardwalk.

This big, beautiful boardwalk extends all the way from Brighton Beach through Coney Island. The natural scenery is as you would expect: the crashing Atlantic, a somewhat littered, broad beach—and the people watching is good too. Old-timers and retirees stroll and converse on the benches along the route, parents push carriages, and joggers speed past.

During the terrible storm called Hurricane Sandy, which hit the Eastern Seaboard in late September 2012, tremendous devastation, mostly due to high winds and flooding, was caused in Coney Island and to the commercial establishments along the boardwalk.
