Hair Structure: The structure of hair on our scalp be separated into two, they are the root and shaft. The root of hair is in the epidermis of scalp. These roots are bounded by follicle and it look like a small pouch.
The hair root base, having the bulb shaped area which is concave by capillaries and nerve fibers. And it works the cells in the centre of bulb divide and the newly divided hair cells drive up the preceding cells up so the cells which move upwards pass away slowly and then forms hard hair shaft. The hair shaft includes three layers; they are cuticle, medulla and cortex respectively. The outermost layer is called Cuticle which helps to protect the inner layers. Cuticle is so translucent. If the cuticle is healthy this gives a shiny appearance for hair and if it is unhealthy gives insensible look.
The innermost layers composed of large cells are called Medulla. The middle layer or the layer between cuticle and medulla is called cortex. This contains pigment and keratin. Cortex ascertains the bulk and potency of hair. There is some oil secreting glands in the hair follicle which helps the hair appears shiny. If the stress and strain also some illness reduce the secretion of oil and pigments which causing the graying of hair.
