    • 1). Measure each window you wish to insulate and add 1/4 inch to the width and the height measurement. For instance, if your windows are 2 feet 1¾ inches wide and 3 feet 2½ inches tall, measurements for your plastic pieces will be 2 feet, 2 inches by 3 feet, 2¾ inches.

    • 2). Cut one piece of plastic film for each of your windows, adding the extra ¼ inch to your measurements before you cut.

    • 3). Apply double-sided tape all around the edge of your window frame. Place the tape on the narrow part of the frame that meets the wall at a 90 degree angle, not the broad part of the frame you can see straight-on.

    • 4). Press the edges of your plastic film firmly into the tape. It's made to stick strongly to the tape and should adhere without problems. If this is the case, add a second layer of tape over the first. The first layer of tape may have dust on it; keep the second layer clean.

    • 5). Gently heat the edges of each window frame treatment with a hair dryer on low speed. The film should tighten and shrink to size around your window. Heat the center of the film the same way until you see no more wrinkles or the plastic appears to stop shrinking.
