Imperial Beach is considered the most southern beach city in all of San Diego and Southern California.
It's also the most southwesterly city in the continental United States.
Bordered by the Pacific Ocean and South San Diego Bay, this residential beach city in the South Bay area of San Diego County is 14 miles south of Downtown San Diego.
It's located a mere five miles northwest of Tijuana, Mexico and has a population of approximately 27,000.
Since there is so much to do and see and it's not unusual to find residents or even visitors strolling the streets, walking about and riding bikes from morning to night.
The beautiful sunsets along the Pacific Coast are always a big draw.

They boast picnic facilities to playgrounds with grassy play fields to horseshoe pits and volleyball courts; some parks even have spectacular ocean views.
The Imperial Beach Skate Park, located at the Imperial Beach Sports Park Recreation Center, features a bowl, ramps, grind rails and benches for skaters of all ages to enjoy.
The recreational center provides amenities such as a game room, café, dance center, music room, a gym and picnic grounds.
More organized activities can be found at the city's Boys and Girls Club, which offers many programs for young people from the community.
One of the attractions of any community is the schools, and Imperial Beach has their share of educational options.
Bayside Elementary, Central Elementary, Imperial Beach Elementary, Oneonta Elementary and West View Elementary comprise the schools for the younger set; Mar Vista Middle School, actually located in San Diego, is where students find themselves going to Middle School;Imperial Beach students end up in either Mar Vista High School or Southwest High School.
The Imperial Beach Senior Center is a popular entity amongst the mature population.
It's located at 1075 8th Street and is open to individuals 50 years of age and older.
This Senior Center offers a variety of life-enriching classes and activities in a fun, social environment.
They even offer free tax assistance, free legal service and even a blood pressure clinic once a month.
One thing very unique to this community is the internationally-renown U.

Open Sandcastle Competition held every summer for the past 30+ years.
It's known to be the largest sand castle completion in the United States and draws approximately 300,000 people over one weekend.
Besides the contest itself, there's a street festival, compete with food vendors, musical entertainment and arts and crafts.
It's quite a site to see and one you certainly don't want to miss during the summer.
