How to Cover the House's Foundation
- 1). Prime the wall with an acrylic concrete primer and then paint it with acrylic paint. Painting the house’s foundation helps it blend in with the rest of the home, and it is a simple and time-saving way to cover up the concrete. Acrylic paints weather well, and you can apply two or more coats for good coverage.
- 2). Build a wood lattice around the concrete foundation. Lattice draws the eye away from the concrete and breaks up the solid effect using crisscrossed wood strips. For a very quick solution, you can simply lean the lattice against the foundation, but for a more permanent solution, sink the lattice posts into the ground in front of the concrete foundation.
- 3). Cover the cement wall with stucco. Apply the wet stucco to the wall using a trowel, creating a smooth wall or a raised design. Work quickly so that the stucco does not dry on you, or mix up small batches of stucco. After the stucco is dry, you can leave it a natural gray or paint it to give it color as well as texture.
- 4). Cover the foundation with plants. Not only does landscaping the area cover the house’s foundation, it also gives the home a lively, green appearance. "This Old House" recommends choosing plants that offer visual interest all year round. Inkberry, Korean boxwood and summersweet are all plants with a wide variety of visual interest, allowing them to grant your home grace as well as coverage.
