Why You Shouldn"t Hide Things From Debt Councillors
If you do find one, however, make sure you're honest with them about the level of debt you're in, or you could pay for it down the line.
You may be in the same situation that I was in a number of years ago.
The money you have coming in is far outweighed by the money that should be going out; I say should be because in most cases the money that should be going out isn't actually going to all of the places it's owed to.
In most cases, if you even dare to open the mail arriving on your doorstep, you'll find that the combined interest payments alone are more than the money you have coming in; but you keep on trying to meet the payments.
Eventually you'll start to see all of your lines of credit dry up, and that's generally when the whole thing will hit you - bankruptcy and the loss of your house are looming extremely largely in the not too distant future; then you'll decide to act.
Now, all though it's fairly late in the day to actually start to take your situation seriously i.

up till now you've probably been thinking that some minor miracle is going to wipe out those pesky bills, it isn't too late to minimize the damage that will be caused.
Debt councillors have, in general, had a bit of bad press down to a few of the opportunists that exist in every market.
Some of the rogues will set you up with a repayment scheme that actually gets you further into debt than you are now; and with more and more people struggling to meet their payments it opens the way for more of these chancers.
Of course it doesn't have to be that way.
Before you get to the stage where you've used up all of your available credit by using one credit card to pay off another, stop, and think about what's going to happen in the next six months.
Do you have any foreseeable way of paying off this increased loan in that time? Or is this all just going to come to a crashing end? If the only outcome is going to be the crashing end then start looking now for good debt councillors.
The best place to start is usually with the charities that have links with councillors, it usually costs you nothing to talk to them; believe me these people know what they're talking about because they deal with it every day.
One of the best pieces of advice you could get, for when you're talking to them, is to be completely honest about how much trouble you're in.
They won't judge you for it, but they need to know as many of the details as possible in order to a: find out what your options are and b: get the ball rolling on taking the steps necessary.
One of the unexpected benefits is that you'll have to finally admit to yourself just how bad things have become.
Now, before it's too late, stop the things that you've been trying to do to get yourself out of the mess you're in, and get yourself one of the many good honest debt councillors.
