How to Mow Wild Blueberries

104 38
    • 1). Use a lawn mower or rotary mower for small patches of wild blueberries where the ground is flat and free from rocks and shrubs. Use a flail mower, either as an attachment for your tractor or as a freestanding mower with its own motor, for tight or uneven areas and low-lying spots. The smaller the width of the mower, the more precise you can be when mowing.

    • 2). Set the mower height to cut less than 1 inch above the soil line. Check frequently as you mow to be sure you are not cutting into the soil, destroying the wild blueberry roots. Also check to be sure you are not mowing too high; mowing too high will encourage unproductive growth.

    • 3). Mow slowly, only 1 or 2 mph, in a pattern up and down the rows. Turn off the mower when someone approaches. Go over the area to be sure you didn't miss any areas. Mow again in any areas you've missed.
