How to Write With a Nib Pen

    • 1). Pick up the nib pen and hold it correctly. The best position is to rest the pen just forward of the bottom knuckle on your index finger. Do not create pressure between your thumb and index finger, because this will hinder your writing technique.

    • 2). Adjust the angle of the pen. Make sure it is at a shallow angle, so when you rest your hand on the table the nib sits in front of your index finger.

    • 3). Check the position of your hand. Rest the base of your hand, where your palm and wrist meet, lightly on the table. Roll your wrist to the right so you are resting on the edge of your hand.

    • 4). Correct your posture. Relax, but sit up straight. This ensures that your arm is properly aligned, so you can write in the best way possible.

    • 5). Start writing on the paper. Practice drawing simple straight and diagonal lines, and circles across lines on a page. Move your wrist, not your fingers when you write.

    • 6). Keep your wrist loose, and use fluid movements to write the letters on the page. Do not press firmly on the paper, because this will cause ink to smudge and leak. Keep practicing to find the right balance. If you press too hard, the nib might break.

    • 7). Monitor the movements of your hand. Moving your wrist means you need to keep the wrist-hand-fingers in one position without movement among them. Begin writing letters and concentrate on doing this.

    • 8). Watch how your letter writing changes and improves with greater practice. Practice drawing patterns to improve your control and hand movements.
