Excessive barking is a very old and common issue for dog owners everywhere.
Dogs bark to express a variety of emotions just as people do; they may want attention, they could be upset, excited or scared, the reasons are endless.
But experts do seem to agree on one thing: that being bored is the most common reason for annoying dog barking! This article will examine 3 steps to train your dog not to bark.
1) Provide your canine with something to do- All creatures need both physical exercise and mental stimulation; and dogs are certainly no different.
Since most canine breeds are active by nature, they will very quickly begin to bark if they become bored.
Make certain your pet receives plenty of exercise every day.
Also you might try giving them one of the many interactive toys which are available.
2) Reward the dogs silence- If your dog barks excessively to get your attention, you MUST NOT respond to them for ANY reason.
Doing so will only teach your dog that barking constantly will get them attention.
Sometimes when dogs are barking you may distract them with such methods as snapping fingers (NEVER use a treat) and then wait awhile for for them to quiet down.
Once they have settled down, you may reward them.
3) Dog Obedience Training- The advantages of good obedience training are endless.
Not only would it help teach you to stop your dog from barking, it can help to eliminate many other possible problems as well.
It will not only teach YOU a little bit more about hot your dog thinks, it will enable your pet to become a better and more enjoyable companion.
