How to Respond Correctly to an Invitation With a Response Card
- 1). Review invitation and confirm date for response. Schedule date on your calendar, if attending.
- 2). Insert your name into the blank portion of the card where it is indicated. This is normally after the M (which is for Mr., Mrs., Miss or Ms, you will fill in the appropriate title).
- 3). Put an "X" into the acceptance box, if you plan on attending or in the decline box, if you are not. If there is a sentence with "will" and "attend" with a space between the words, write the word "not" in the space if you are not attending.
- 4). Add the total of people attending and put the number on the blank line. Do not count how many people are in your household. The names of those who are invited should be on the inner envelope of formal invitations. Only those who are invited should attend. It is considered impolite to add other names to the response card, or to call the host and ask if you can invite others.
- 5). Place the reply card in the reply envelope and mail. Most reply envelopes are already addressed and stamped for you.
