Things You'll Need

Instructions

1

Inspect the power to the monitor. Check for a cord that may be damaged or burning out. Examine the connection, and use a voltmeter to make sure you have the correct voltage from the electrical outlet. The normal voltage amount is about 100 watts for a running computer monitor. If the computer is not receiving the correct amount of volts, the image could be blurred.
2

Reset the monitor to restore the original settings. After time, the setting may change on its own, which in turn could affect the image. Press the "Menu" button on the monitor and select "Restore Factory Settings." If this option is not available, pull out the cord connecting the monitor to the computer to reset it.
3

Disconnect any cordless phone handsets, speakers or external devices that may be connected near the monitor. These devices can create an electromagnetic field that could blur or distort the picture.
4

Alter the monitor's resolution and refresh rate settings to remedy the blurriness. To do this, click on the "Start" menu and select "Control Panel," then "Display." Select the "Settings" tab, and with the mouse, drag the bar marked "Screen Resolution." Click on the "Advanced" button, then the "Monitor" tab. You can alter the refresh rate in this tab. Click "OK" when you're finished, then restart the computer to engage the new settings. You may need to adjust the settings a few times to get the correct one.
5

Reinstall the monitor driver. Sometimes the blurry picture is a result of a incorrect device driver. Visit the computer monitor manufacturer's website. Locate the support page and download the software for your computer monitor's model. Install the new driver, and disconnect the monitor from the computer. Reconnect the monitor, then check the picture quality.
