Detention Officers

• One of the most common jobs in the juvenile justice system is a detention officer. Correctional officers oversee juvenile inmates at correction facilities and are responsible for day-to-day juvenile inmate management and maintaining order in the facilities. Their environment typically consists of community and minimum security facilities for juveniles. Most correctional officers are required to have a high school diploma or an associate's degree.
  
  

Health Care Professionals

• Health care professionals aren't just needed in hospitals, they are also needed in juvenile detention facilities as well. Juvenile inmates require professionals such as registered nurses, nurse practitioners, dentists, pediatricians and other specialty doctors to treat inmates when medical needs or emergencies arise. These medical professionals must meet professional requirements for their professions, including licensing and certification.
  
  

Psychologists and Mental Health Counselors

• A large proponent of the juvenile justice system is that offenders can be adequately treated and successfully moved back into society with rehabilitation. As part of this, psychologists and counselors play a key role. They use a variety of techniques to assess, evaluate and report the mental health of juvenile inmates, in addition to helping them rehabilitate using a number of strategies. Generally, these professionals must have a Ph.D. from an accredited college and university while counselors typically have advanced training.
  
  

Child Protective Workers

• Given that these offenders are typically under 18, they are required to have child protective service workers monitor their welfare. These workers are often the liaison between the child, the state and family members, often coordinating services as needed.
  
  

Probation Officers

• Probation officers supervise juveniles placed on probation, making sure that they meet the terms of their probation. They also oversee grades, school attendance and other behavioral matters. This type of job typically requires a college degree.
