How To Lose Weight Walking
It's the 30th December, and the time of year when everyone is thinking about new years resolutions.
Top of the list for many is losing weight.
Over the Xmas and New Year period many people will put on around a stone due to the amount of food they eat.
A lot of this will be through biscuits and chocolates.
How to lose weight walking is a simple way of losing the calories that you have eaten during the day, without stretching the pocket, or joining a gym.
There is no better way of shredding calories than walking.
A good way to start to reduce this weight is to go for a walk twice a day.
Try and make one of the walks a fairly long walk of around 2 hours.
If you have a tea room that you could use it would be ideal to put this in play at the end of the walk or at least when you are almost near the end.
This is a great incentive to help you to achieve that goal.
The 2nd walk can be a lot shorter, and preferably after you have consumed your last meal in the evening.
This walk is a fat burner and is just to get the heart working and burn some of those calories you have consumed.
A 2 hour walk at an average speed will burn well over 1000 calories.
Do this on a regular basis and the weight will fall off.
Walking is as good as running.
In fact it is better.
With running or jogging it is very easy to pull a muscle or get a niggling injury that can put you out of action for weeks.
You also have the clothing to consider on a daily basis as you will need to wash the clothes that you use on at least every other occasion.
You also need to consider the route you are going to take.
Taking the same route on a run will soon get you down; you will quickly get to know exactly where you are at a given time which can become quite annoying.
With walking a lot of these considerations can be put aside.
You don't have to worry about the clothing.
You can wear whatever you want and washing it does not come into play if you walk at normal speed.
In fact you will more than likely need a jacket if the weather is not too good.
With walking it matters not which route you take as long as you spend a reasonable amount of time on the road.
Today I did a small walk in the mountains.
My family went skiing but due to a shoulder injury skiing was no good for me.
Instead I put on a jacket and went for a walk towards the restaurant that they had all gone too.
Unfortunately I never made it there.
For one I had not been there before so I did not know the route and secondly it is very difficult to walk on snow when you are not following a route that is well trodden.
So I walked for just over 1 hour before turning back.
It was downhill on the way back so the route was only 40 minutes.
This journey was around 1000 calories plus.
Had I used my Polar FT80 Heart Rate Monitor I would have known exactly what calories I had burned.
The Polar is a superb watch that allows you to put in a weekly target of calories or hours that you want to do.
It then monitors your exercise for the whole week and at the end of it tells you what you have achieved.
If you make it to what it recommends you get a gold star.
Anything less than this and it advises you what to do next.
With this watch and by using it as recommended I lost 8 kilos without to much effort in 6 months.
It may not sound a lot, but this was taking weight off that I did not need, and I am not fat in the first place.
I dropped from 88 kilos to 80 kilos with very little effort.
So this Christmas and New Year, do yourself a favour and get out there and do a little walking each and every day.
Follow this sound advice and how to lose weight walking will become second nature.
You will soon burn those calories off.
Try and avoid the New Years resolution of going on a diet to lose weight.
This does not work.
See the article about dieting on our blog below for more information on why diets never work, and better options for weight loss.
We also have information on the Polar heart rate monitor if you think they would encourage you to get out there and lose weight.
Believe me they work.
