U.S. media: China's rise is not necessarily at the expense of the United States

In the company canteen, there hangs a portrait of former Apple CEO Steve Jobs, and its motto "Stay Hungry, Stay Foolish." The energetic founder of the company said that his dream was that China would become an innovative big country with the production of its own Apple products.
People have been talking at length about Chinese sweatshops have exhausted the United States jobs, currency manipulation and unfair trade. In fact, the competitiveness of the United States is suffering from an even greater threat: cheap Chinese are rapidly faded; a new one focusing on innovation has gradually surfaced. In order to take a position in the forefront of innovation territory rapidly, the Beijing government has invested heavily in science, engineering research and education, with implementation of substantial tax cuts and generous subsidies to technology enterprises. The focus on the innovation may promote China to turn from development depending on the consumption of resources to the development depending on the innovation of science and technology. Therefore, the innovation may strengthen China, but this does not necessarily mean that it will rise at the cost of the United States.
Then, how can the United States and other developed economies deal with and continue to retain their position as the pinnacle of knowledge-based economy in the 21st century? The first is not to bear ideas to do harm to other countries. The politicians should bear in mind that global innovation is not zero-sum game: the rise of China is not necessarily at the expense of the United States.
30 years ago, many doomsayers have screamed that Japan which has been investing heavily in the innovation will completely defeat the West. In fact, what have risen along with Japan's peaceful rise are the new industries of digital age created by U.S. entrepreneurs. Therefore, the rise of Japan, instead of rising at the cost of the United States, actually has allowed more opportunities for the United States to develop in certain field.
