    • 1). Locate the negative battery cable. Loosen the retaining bolt on the cable end with a wrench and remove the cable from the battery terminal. The negative battery terminal is marked with a minus symbol molded into the battery case.

    • 2). Locate the belt tensioner on the front of the engine. The tensioner has a square hole in the arm that will accept a half-inch drive breaker bar. Insert the breaker bar into the square hole and rotate it counterclockwise, loosening the belt on the pulley.

    • 3). Remove the serpentine belt from the pulleys while holding the tensioner away from the belt. Once the belt is off the pulleys, slowly rotate the tensioner back to the home position. Remove the belt from the engine compartment and discard it.

    • 4). Install a new serpentine belt over all of the pulleys except the tensioner pulley. Rotate the tensioner counterclockwise and slide the belt over the tensioner. Slowly rotate the tensioner clockwise, allowing it to tighten the belt as you go. Once the tensioner is all the way down, remove the breaker bar from the tensioner and take it out of the engine compartment.

    • 5). Reinstall the negative battery cable on to the negative post of the battery and tighten the retaining bolt with a wrench.
