    • 1). Raise the vehicle. Depending on your Jeep's ground clearance, you may need to raise the vehicle to access the oil pan. If you cannot comfortably crawl underneath the vehicle, raise the Jeep using a hydraulic jack and secure it by placing jack stands under each side of the front axle.

    • 2). Drain the motor oil. The oil pan holds all of the engine oil necessary for your Jeep to run. Locate the drain plug, at the back of the oil pan, and break it loose using a ratchet. Upon loosening the drain plug, oil will begin coming out of the drain plug. Place the drain pan behind the drain plug to catch the oil.

    • 3). Loosen the oil pan bolts. When looking at the oil pan on your Jeep, you will find a number of bolts that secure the oil pan to the bottom of the engine. The number of bolts that hold the oil pan in place vary based on your Jeep model. Loosen the oil pan bolts using a ratchet with sockets.

    • 4). Drop the oil pan. With bolts removed, you can drop the oil pan from the engine. Try to break the pan loose using only your hands. If you experience difficulties removing the oil pan, loosen it by tapping it with a mallet, or pry gently at the top of it using a screwdriver.

    • 5). Remove the old gasket. Use a screwdriver to remove the old gasket material from the oil pan and the bottom of your Jeep engine. You can also place some transmission fluid on a shop towel to loosen the gasket material while removing it.
