Install a Lattice Privacy Fence
I recently had an above-ground pool put in the backyard for my kids to enjoy on hot summer days.
The pool is a lot of fun, and the whole family loves it so far.
Now the next step is to put up some kind of barrier between our yard and the neighbors on either side.
It's not that we don't get along with these folks; we just don't want them to be able to see everything that's going on over here.
I think a nice lattice privacy fence might be in order.
Fortunately, I don't live in one of those subdivisions that are so big on uniformity.
There is no homeowners association to answer to, which means I'm allowed to change my property in any way I want -- so long as my changes conform to city building codes.
I'm pretty sure installing a lattice privacy fence won't go against any laws, so I'm going to move forward by bringing in a contractor for an estimate.
If I were any kind of DIY enthusiast or if I had any confidence in my ability to handle tools, I'd probably attempt the job myself.
I did some checking on the Internet, and apparently it's not that hard to install a lattice privacy fence on your own.
But I've never attempted any kind of project like that before.
I just wouldn't feel comfortable trying to do this by myself, and would likely make a big mess of things.
This is a job I better leave to the professionals! It wasn't that hard to find a contractor to come out to give me a quote.
I know putting up a lattice privacy fence is a small job, so I steered clear of the big firms and talked only to the one-man operations.
These guys usually appreciate jobs of any size, and do good work at reasonable prices.
The person I spoke to on the phone sounded like he knew what he was talking about.
He gave me a rundown of some of the different fencing options that are available to me, but I wanted to stick with a simple lattice privacy fence since those look good, are easy to care for, and are relatively cheap.
I liked how the contractor respected my decision and didn't try to up-sell me on more expensive materials and a more labor-intensive job.
All that's left is for him to come measure the yard and give me a firm estimate.
After the lattice privacy fence goes up, we'll be able to relax by the pool without worrying about who might be looking on.
Our yard won't be totally blocked from view, but we'll have enough of a screen to swim or sunbathe away from prying eyes, which is all we really want anyway.
