How to Get an Official W2
- 1). Contact your employer's payroll department. Depending on your company, you can walk into the payroll department and make a request to have your W-2 mailed. Call your company's payroll department to have a W-2 mailed, if you can't visit the payroll department in person. Verify your name and address to ensure the document gets sent to the proper location. Allow a reasonable amount of time for your employer to resend or issue your W-2, as explained by the IRS website.
- 2). Call the IRS at 800-829-1040. Inform the IRS representative that you have not received a W-2 from your employer. Provide your name, address, social security number, dates of employment, and your employer's name, address and phone number.
- 3). Locate the final pay stub from your employer. Indicate your wages and federal income tax withheld. State your employer's EIN, also known as an employer identification number. An EIN is a nine-digit number assigned to a company by the IRS. The IRS will use the employment data you provided to alert your employer that you need your W-2 mailed, as stated on the Bankrate website.
