John Cena Discusses "12 Rounds
< Continued from page 1
So what stunts didn't John Cena do in 12 Rounds? "Certain stunts on the helicopter. I'm trying to think of what else. Certain things in the driving stuff where literally if something went wrong and the car was torn in half by a bus or something like that, certain spots then in the driving. But for the most part I was in the game for a lot of it," said Cena.
He even repelled down the side of a building, a stunt which wound up being his least favorite stunt of the whole film.
"I did [that] and for me that sucked because I'm afraid of heights and ledges. I'm okay with flying and stuff like that, but I just have a fear that when I get close to those things someone or something is just going to tip me over. So they actually did tip me over there and made me hang ten stories," admitted Cena.
"There was a scene in the movie where I have to jump out of that ten story bank and kind of use a rope to repel down to safety. This was like 75% through the movie and I knew it was going to be a problem because during preproduction they had me train with the fire department and learn how to repel. It was awful, but I did it and that was my bad because they knew that I could do it. So then when we finally got to that scene I was like, 'Renny, I don't know if I can do this. I just don't think that I can do it.' He said, 'Okay. I'll use a double. If I do use a double, we get nothing out of this. If I use you, this is what I'll cut. This is what I'll make the movie and this is what will help me out in the scene.
Can you do it?'"
"I developed a very good friendship with Renny and I saw him everyday working his ass off. So he set that demeanor where you didn't want to let the guy down. Had he been a jerk I would've been like, 'Forget it.' But he was such a good guy and so motivated that I got up there and I didn't conquer my fear, I still get the crap scared out of me every time that I get on a ledge, but I sucked it up and did the scene and he was a man of his word. All that stuff made the movie."
Looking Into the Future
Rumor has it John Cena might be in consideration for Captain America. Asked if it's true, Cena replied, "I love America. I was a team captain at Springfield College. So if the Marvel folks are listening, it's a perfect fit. I think it'd work great. No. That is strictly just a rumor. There've been no talks on that. I'll give you the scoop on that firsthand."As for the direction of his career, Cena said he has no plans to take a break from wrestling. "I really just plan on, and it's tough for me to say this just because of the people who have come before me, but I'm not going to leave the ring any time soon. I've done two features now. I haven't sacrificed one bit of commitment to the WWE. I can do two things at once and it's two jobs that I enjoy. I love making movies and I love my time in the ring. I wouldn't want to give either one of them up."
