It is imperative that any time you must tow a vehicle or trailer, that the greatest care is taken to make sure that the towing is done safely for your sake and that of anyone else on the road. If you plan to use a rope to tow your car, there are a number of things that need to be kept in mind before you start your towing. Don't be concerned though - with just a few short minutes of simple research you will be ready to tow your car without injuring yourself or the car in any way. One of the most important things you must know when towing a vehicle or trailer is that you must only attach the rope to solid metal which will handle the rope's pull, and never attach it to anything else at any point time. A really good example of should make sure to never attach the rope to is your vehicle bumper. Vehicles simply are not created this way anymore, and while that bumper looks firmly fastened, if you try to tow something by strapping a rope or chain onto the bumper you are going to pull it right off the frame of your car.

Step one, when you are linking the hook to the pulling vehicle, look for a solid mounting point that is usually in the rear of the car. If you are not able to find it, try looking towards where the bumper is mounted on, and go from there. An alternative is to install a trailer hitch onto the vehicle that you plan to do most of the pulling with, as these will normally have places that are meant specifically for mounting a tow rope hook. Don't forget, you want to be just as careful with the vehicle that is pulling the car as you are with the car being towed - it can't do anyone any good if the pulling vehicle was the one damaged in the process!

The next step is attaching the tow strap to the automobile that you are going to be pulling. As outlined above, do not attach this to anything that isn't firmly attached to the vehicle. You need to find a heavy-duty steel hook underneath where the bumper is mounted that is meant for attaching the hook. If you cannot find yours, go ahead and check your owner's manual for more information. The owner's manual will have a diagram that will illustrate exactly where it is located.

For the last step, you need to work out the logistics of the actual towing. First, you never want to pull a vehicle that won't have someone inside of it. This is to prevent possible damages or injuries brought on if your tow cable were to come lose for some reason. While it might seem that the car will be fine, a helper can really help steer the car or use the breaks if the rope does snap. You should also ignore the speed limit signs on any freeways that you drive on by driving less than the speed limit, and it is obvious that you should never exceed the speed limit either. The need to arrive at your destination is not important enough to put anyone at risk. Keep it slow and keep it safe and you will be thankful you did so in the end. Lastly, keep in mind not to make any abrupt movements and to just play it smooth.
