How to Draw Cats & Dogs & Other Animals Like Pigs

    • 1). Prepare for drawing by gathering your drawing tools together, and then by placing a blank sheet of paper on a flat surface in front of you.

    • 2). Create a template body shape for the animals you want to draw. This consists of a circle for the head and an oval shaped body. Draw the circle in the middle on the left side of the page. The oval body is attached to the right of this and at least three times as big.

    • 3). Write down the defining features of the animal you want to draw. For example, a cat as two triangular shaped ears and whiskers, while a dog has larger triangle shaped ears, and a pig is pink with a snout.

    • 4). Draw the facial features of the animal. For a cat's nose, draw a small heart shape with two small upturned crescent shapes directly below it for its lips. Add whiskers by drawing dots on its cheeks with horizontal lines coming out of these. A pig's snout is drawn as a wide oval with two smaller triangles in the middle.

    • 5). Add the animal's legs. For each animal, add different length legs, but keep the legs simple by drawing them as sausage shapes. Dogs, pigs and cats have four legs, so add two at the front of the body and two at the back.

    • 6). Draw the animal's feet. This can also be key in distinguishing the animal from others. For example, add squares for a pig's trotters and four small arches connected together for the cat's paws.

    • 7). Put the tail on the animal. Position it at the top of the right hand side of the oval. Make sure it matches the type of animal you are drawing. A pig has a spiral tail and a cat has an elongated "C"-shaped tail. Draw squiggles either side of the dog's tail to imply that it is wagging.

    • 8). Color in the drawing using relevant colors. For a cat, you could use orange stripes like Garfield or use black spots on white fur for a Dalmatian dog. If you are drawing a pig, consider adding smudges of brown for mud.
