How to Install a Wiikey
- 1). Slide on your gloves and work from the bottom of your Wii console. Remove the battery cover door using your very small Phillips screwdriver to reveal one Triwing screw. Unscrew the Triwing screw. Use your X-Acto knife to remove the four small screw covers from your Wii console and place the screw covers on the wax paper. Removing the screw covers will reveal three Phillips screws and one Triwing screw. Unscrew these screws.
- 2). Place your Wii console on its side. Use your X-Acto knife to remove the two stickers on the front of the console and on the two feet located on the back of the Wii console. Removing all four side stickers will reveal four Triwing screws. Unscrew the screws. Place your screws in the container. Turn the Wii console to the front side. Remove the two doors in the front of the console to reveal three Phillips screws and remove those screws. Then, pop out the black plastic covering.
- 3). Turn your Wii console to the front part. Gently remove the front part of the console to reveal the inside of the console. Be very cautious when removing the front part as there is a door wire connection. Disconnect the wire connection, which should pop out easily. Turn your Wii back to the front side to remove the two Triwing screws above the black circular device part of the console. Remove the top backing of the Wii console.
- 4). Remove the two Phillips screws located on the black part of the device closer to the silver drive of the device. Then remove the two Phillips screws that are inside the two holes of the silver drive located close to the corner edge of the Wii console. Gently remove the silver drive, which is a big piece of the Wii console. On the silver drive, there are two connections. One of the connections is a silver drive cable. Flip open the silver drive cable connection to disconnect it from the drive. Detach the other connection by gently pulling its plug out.
- 5). Move the other parts aside as you will now work with the silver drive to install the Wiikey. Place the protective label on the back of the chip. Place the Wii-clip directly over the small drive controller chip next to the "Drive Data Cable" connector (see the Solderless WiiKey Installation page in the Resources section). Wiggle it on until it feels tight and then press the Wii-clip down with your thumb firmly. Reassemble your Wii console and you're done.
