Why would you stop smoking if you enjoy it so much? You don't really want to quit smoking! Well I have heard this many, many times and I have never failed to convince the smoker you are fooling yourself.
And I do not believe it is what you may think.
I do not tell him about all of the health or financial consequences of smoking.
Neither do I tell him about myself.
You see, I am bilateral BK amputee and suffer from congestive heart failure- both caused by smoking.
Why not tell them you may ask?Because neither of these health problems made me stop smoking.
Amazing and outrageous how cigarettes controlled me.
It was not until I discovered the secret to stopping smoking that I finally quit seven years AFTER my amputation.
Seven full years of hell.
However, this is not what I told them as to the reason why I they should not enjoy a cigarette.
Nor did I talk about going bankrupt - not only because of smoking but I did think about the 50-60 thousand dollars I spent on cigarettes.
It certainly would have helped me through the toughest time after it and maybe before even.
I owed the banks $10,000,000 secured by good assets and I got a little in default of the loans.
And the bankers did what they do best.
Screwed me.
None of my problems were mentioned.
All I do in answer to their comment is to ask them a question.
I know asking a question with a question is not usually polite but in this case it works.
Here is what I ask them: Do you want your children or grandchildren or any children to smoke so they can enjoy it as well? The answer is always this: NO! Definitely NOT! Then I inform them of their contradiction.
They cannot possibly enjoy smoking a cigarette and they really do want to stop smoking.
Everyone, in my opinion, who smokes really wants to stop smoking! I smoked for over 35 miserable years.
I know what I am talking about.
