Hayward is located in northwestern Wisconsin near the Chequamegon National Forest. The thousands of acres of nearby wilderness offer visitors a variety of outdoor activities, including fishing, hiking, boating, canoeing, kayaking and hunting. Other travelers will enjoy perusing downtown Hayward's selection of shops and restaurants. Located on the Namekagon River and Lake Hayward, Mallard's Landing operates six cabins that are open for guests year-round, differing in size and decor. All cabins are furnished with a microwave, refrigerator, coffee maker, charcoal grill, bathroom with shower, heat, air-conditioning, television with cable and DVD player and a private deck. The Old Dutch Cottage sleeps two people in one queen-sized bed; Mallard's Nest Cabins I and II are slightly larger and can comfortably accommodate a small family, while the Hayward Lake I and II cabins are furnished with two sets of bunk beds. The largest cabin is King Ludwig, which has a separate bedroom and loft area with newly updated memory foam mattresses. Hayward Lake is a great fishing spot, but requires a Wisconsin state license. Fish cleaning is not allowed on Mallard's Landing property.

Northwoods Compass operates a variety of vacation homes in the Hayward area, including Eagle Watch, located on Long Lake. Eagle Watch has two bedrooms, one bathroom and can accommodate up to six guests. There is room for one RV with full hook-ups. Amenities include a washer and dryer, central air, dishwasher, private deck, full kitchen and bathroom and cable television. Outdoors there is a fire pit, charcoal grill and private dock. Long Lake is a large lake that is ideal for recreation, including boating, fishing and swimming. The lake is home to a variety of restaurants that can be accessed by foot, car or boat. Eagle Watch is located near Butternut Hills Golf Club and overlooks a large plot of Boy Scout land. Bed linens are provided; bring your own towels.

Recreational Rental Properties operates the Chippewa Retreat, located on the lake of the same name. Lake Chippewa is one of the largest lakes in the state, measuring 15,000 acres of pristine waters with a sandy bottom. The cabin features three bedrooms, bunkhouse (additional charge), two bathrooms with shower and bathtub, charcoal grill, dishwasher, gas range, microwave, washer/dryer, cable television, wood fireplace, air conditioning, DVD/VCR, private dock and fire pit. Pets are welcome for an additional charge, but smoking is prohibited. The minimum stay is three nights.
