Firefighting Equipment Information
- Firefighting equipment includes vehicles, such as rescue, tanker, HazMat and crash trucks, high-pressure hoses, fire hydrants, ladders, axes, and first-aid equipment. A firefighter's uniform, which includes boots, a helmet, pants and coat, is also an important piece of firefighting equipment.
- Each piece of firefighting equipment serves an important purpose in combating fires while protecting the firefighter and civilians. The hoses and hydrants allow the firefighters to get water onto the fire; first-aid equipment is used for providing medical attention to injured firefighters and civilians; and uniforms protect firefighters from the heat and flames caused by fires.
- Firefighters are trained to use each piece of firefighting equipment, from getting dressed quickly, to combating fires. Some specialized firefighters are trained in providing medical care or, as smoke jumpers, firefighters who are trained to parachute into areas that are not easily accessible.
