    FAFSA

    • The New Jersey Higher Education Student Assistance Authority: determines students financial needs using a form known as the Free Application for Federal Student Aid. Students complete the form online on the U.S. Department of Education's website. The FAFSA asks for information about the assets, income and debts of students and also their parents. Based on the provided answers, the U.S. Department of Education determines how much students and their families can be expected to contribute to the cost of their education. The NJHESAA then uses this expected contribution to assess student need.

    Tuition Aid Grant

    • The New Jersey tuition aid grant is for students working toward their first associate or baccalaureate degree. The funds from the grant are usable at any of the private or public degree-granting institutions in the state. To qualify, candidates must have held New Jersey residency for at least 12 months prior to the date of their application. Students must attend college on a full-time basis, which the state defines as taking a minimum of 12 semester credits per term. The amount of funding provided through the TAG program varies based on the cost of tuition and students' demonstrated need. The maximum funding available is full tuition.

    Part-Time TAG

    • The Part-Time Tuition Aid Grant gives tuition assistance for students attending a program on a part-time basis, which New Jersey defines as taking six to 11 semester credits per term. Recipients may use the funds only at the state's public, two-year county colleges. Like the full-time program, students must be residents of New Jersey for one year prior for applying for a Part-Time TAG. The maximum funding available through the program is full tuition assistance.

    Educational Opportunity Fund

    • The Educational Opportunity Fund Grant provides tuition assistance for students with a large amount of financial need who come from a history of poverty as determined by the state. Funds from the grant are usable at participating New Jersey postsecondary schools, which include 18 county colleges, 11 public four-year colleges and 13 private four-year colleges. Only candidates who have lived in New Jersey for at least one year are eligible. The maximum amount available through the EOF program varies each year based upon the availability of funds and students' determined needs.
