    • Incorporated in 1873, Canisteo, N.Y., is approximately 62 miles south of Rochester. For tourists, the community and its surrounding areas are home to a number of attractions, including the Turkey Ridge State Forest and wineries in the Finger Lakes region. Visitors to Canisteo have numerous accommodations to choose from, including recreational vehicle (RV) campgrounds.

    Sugar Creek Glen Campground

    • Sugar Creek Glen Campground is in Danville, approximately 22 miles from Canisteo (about 30 minutes by automobile). The campground has 131 campsites for recreational vehicles that measure around 30 feet by 40 feet. Approximately 105 of the RV sites feature water and electric hookups. Although the campground does not offer sewage hookups at the campsites, a mobile sewer service and sewage waste dump are available. For campers' convenience, restrooms and pay showers are located on the property as well as a camp store that sells groceries, RV supplies and firewood. Canaseraga Creek flows through the campground for freshwater fishing. The campground has an indoor game room, swimming holes, nature trails and a playground. Sugar Creek Glen Campground operates from May through mid-October.

    Campers Haven

    • Located in Bath, N.Y., Campers Haven is 30 miles from Canisteo, approximately 35 minutes by automobile. The campground consists of 148 recreational vehicle campsites, around 30 of which are available for short-term vacation stays rather than long-term seasonal rentals. Half of the short-term spots are pull-throughs measuring 30 feet by 60 feet in size, while the remaining back-ins are 30 feet by 50 feet. Water, electric and sewage hookups are available. A picnic table and fire ring is located at each lot. Wireless Internet is available in most of the campground. On-site amenities include restrooms, showers, laundry facilities and a waste dump. The campground operates a store that sells groceries, snacks, RV supplies, souvenirs, propane and firewood. A 14-acre pond is on the property for fishing. Campers also can enjoy the campground's swimming pool, a recreational hall with pool tables and an arcade, basketball and volleyball courts and horseshoe pits. Campers Haven is open from mid-April through mid-October.

    Stony Brook State Park

    • Operated by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation & Historic Preservation, Stony Brook State Park is in Danville, about 20 miles from Canisteo (around 22 minutes by automobile). The campground has 125 campsites: 60 on grass and 65 on gravel. The spaces measure 15 feet by 30 feet. No connections are available at the spots. The campground features restrooms, showers, a sewage waste dump and public telephones. Firewood is sold on-site. Stony Brook flows through the park for freshwater fishing and swimming. The park also has a swimming pool, tennis courts, paths for cross-country skiing, hiking and nature trails, fields for baseball and soccer and a playground. The campground operates from May through October. The state of New York imposes a 14-day maximum length on all stays at the park.
