How to Blackout Car Lights
- 1). Remove the light housings from your vehicle. The light housing is the entire light assembly. It will have a clear lens on the front and a black plastic backing. Different vehicles will have different housing mounts. Most vehicles use clips or bolts. Use an adjustable wrench or socket set and a Phillips or flat-head screwdriver to remove the bolts or clips.
- 2). Use window cleaner and cloth to remove any dirt or debris from the outside of the light-housing lens. Use rubbing alcohol and cloth to remove any remaining dirt. Allow housing to dry completely.
- 3). Lightly sand the outside of the light-housing lens using 100-grit sandpaper.
- 4). Protect any surfaces that are not being painted. Tape off all non-lens surfaces with masking tape and newspaper.
- 5). Shake a can of tint spray vigorously and spray the outside of the light housing from approximately six inches to one foot away. Continue spraying until you have achieved the desired tint. Allow tint to completely dry for four hours.
- 6). Remove masking tape and newspaper and reinstall light housing.
