Pennsylvania law provides a consumer with strong remedies should she purchase and register a new vehicle that turns out to be a lemon. If the vehicle purchased has a defect or problem that substantially harms its value, use or safety then the law requires that the manufacturer repair the vehicle or even replace it or issue a refund. While there are no laws specific to either Chrysler or Pittsburgh, a resident of Pittsburgh who purchased a vehicle manufactured by Chrysler will be covered by Pennsylvania's Lemon Law. - Pennsylvania Lemon Law requires that all manufacturers, including Chrysler, of the new vehicle repair the problem if it occurs within one year of delivery of the vehicle and before the vehicle reaches 12,000 miles. Repairs must be at no cost to the owner.
- Pennsylvania Lemon Law requires the manufacturer to replace the vehicle or issue a refund if the problem cannot be corrected, at the owner's choice. This must happen after three repair attempts or if the vehicle has been out of service for repairs for 30 days or more. If the owner elects a refund, the manufacturer may deduct a reasonable amount for the use of the vehicle but that deduction cannot exceed 10 percent of the purchase price.
- If the manufacturer fails to repair the vehicle at no cost to the owner or replace or issue a refund as required by the Pennsylvania Lemon Law then the owner can bring a civil suit against the manufacturer. The owner may make a claim for damages, as well as, attorneys fees and court costs.
