Canon Develops New High Megapixel Sensor
Canon is known for making some of the best CMOS sensors in the industry.
Their high end DSLR model has a high grade CMOS sensor with over 20 megapixels, a figure that astonished the press when it was first released.
Canon has decided that the megapixel wars, the competition between camera manufacturers to have the most outrageous megapixel count available, have not yet ended.
Canon has recently released information that the company has developed a 120 megapixel CMOS sensor.
This is the highest megapixel amount achieved by any sensor the company has ever produced to date.
Nikon has not come out with a sensor anywhere close to this number.
The sensor is said to have the capability of capturing 9.
5 fps HD frames from any subsection of the new sensor.
If released on their high end DSLR this could make some amazingly high quality HD videos.
So what does Canon plan on doing with this new sensor? To be honest I really have no idea what use this new sensor will provide.
This megapixel count is so high I can't really see it being used on any of their camera models.
A 120 megapixel DSLR camera seems excessively high and I don't think that professional photographers would really get any added benefit from this sensor.
Of course there may be a special need in certain fields for such a camera, but the next problem you would have is the amount of light required for such a sensor.
Even if this sensor doesn't really have much of a place in the market it has shown the world what Canon is capable of.
The new 120 megapixel CMOS sensor is a showing of Canon's strength and lets the industry know that they are always ahead of the competition.
