Army Enlistment Options

The United States Army has a number of options for individuals interested in joining the military. Each position is meant for recruits with specific qualities and qualifications. Tto determine which option is the best for you, it is important to analyze your personality, your strengths and weaknesses and your training and experience. This will help both you and the Army figure out the best place for you to serve in the military. - If you want to enlist to serve in a civilian job, you have two options: active duty or Army Reserve. In active duty, you serve for specified hours each day for about 12 months at a time, according to GoArmy.com. If you choose to serve in the Army Reserve, you spend one weekend each month in training and two weeks at a field training exercise each year. Army Reserve duty service lasts for a period of three to six years. If the country is at war, Army reservists are called up to serve the country in active duty.
- Army Commissioned Officers have been around since June 1775, according to GoArmy.com. Responsibilities of a Commissioned Officer include demanding and completing missions, all while making sure the soldiers under their watch are gaining more experience and have high morale. The United States Army expects Commissioned Officers to inspire others with their strength, knowledge and confidence.
- Army Warrant Officers who are accepted into the officer candidate school go through nine weeks of basic training before attending the Warrant Officer Candidate School. After six weeks of attendance at WOCS, a Warrant Officer experiences flight training. During this flight training, Warrant Officers receive pay, benefits and extra pay for flight time. Warrant Officer candidates must be at least 18 years old and a high school graduate, pass a physical exam and score at least 90 on the Flight Aptitude Selection Test and at least 110 on the Armed Forces Vocational Aptitude Battery.
- Enlisted soldiers each have a Military Occupational Specialty, according to GoArmy.com. They also must live by the core values of the United States Army: personal courage, selfless service, loyalty, duty, respect, integrity and honor. In order to become an enlisted soldier, you must be between 17 and 41 years old, be a United States citizen or permanent resident alien, you must have graduated high school and you must be in good moral standing and physical condition.
