How to Plant Seeds in an EarthBox
- 1). Place the plastic screen in the bottom of the EarthBox. Slide the plastic watering tube into the corner cut-out that is made to fit it.
- 2). Fill the two rear corner cut-outs with moist soilless potting mixture. Pack it into the cut-outs until they are full.
- 3). Fill the bottom reservoir of the EarthBox by pouring water into the watering fill tube. Add water until it comes out the overflow hole in the side of the box.
- 4). Fill the EarthBox half full with the potting mixture and sprinkle it with water. Pat it down to firm it lightly; then finish filling the box all the way to the rim with the potting mixture. Sprinkle with more water and smooth the soil until it is level.
- 5). Make a ½-inch mound down the center of the soil. Make a furrow in this mound and sprinkle 2 cups of granular fertilizer down the furrow. Cover the fertilizer strip with soil and firm it with your hands.
- 6). Place the mulch cover on top the EarthBox. Cut a 3-inch "X" with a pair of scissors where you are planting each seed. Cut the planting holes so they are spaced appropriately for each type of plant.
- 7). Sow a seed in each "X," following the recommended planting depth on the seed packet. Water each newly planted seed from the top immediately after planting.
- 8). Place the EarthBox where it will receive six to eight hours of sunlight per day, or the amount recommended on the seed packet. Fill the EarthBox with water one to two times a week by pouring water into the fill tube until it comes out the overflow hole. Seeds germinate in one to two weeks on average.
