Some of the best engineering universities in the world are located in England. According to the Times Higher Education Supplement ratings for 2009, three of the top 11 universities for engineering are found in the U.K. Each of the universities represented in the list are world renown for their interdisciplinary and cutting-edge research in a variety of fields and disciplines. - According to the Times Higher Education Supplement, a well-known publication that rates college and university programs worldwide, the University of Cambridge's engineering program ranked fourth among all universities across the globe. Cambridge's engineering department is the largest department in the university. The department is comprised of six different research divisions including energy, fluid mechanics and turbomachinery, electrical engineering, mechanics, materials and design, civil, structural, environmental and sustainable development, information engineering and manufacturing and management. The engineering department at Cambridge is multidisciplinary in its orientation with all engineering disciplines within the same department. It also sponsors five prominent research centers.

eng.cam.ac.uk - University College London (UCL) is comprised eight different faculties. The faculty of engineering is one of the more prominent. The Times Supplement rated UCL's engineering program as sixth in the world, tied with the University of Tokyo. The engineering school consists of 10 different departments that include biochemical engineering, chemical engineering, civil, environmental and geomatic engineering, computer science, electronic and electrical engineering, management science and innovation, mechanical engineering, medical physics and bioengineering, a school of energy and resources (located in Australia) and an institute for crime sciences.
